Libertarian Party of West Michigan Newsletter – Spring 2008
Be Sure to Attend Local Convention on April 1st
The details of the local convention
have been set so be sure to mark your calendar! This year’s free
convention is important because we not only select officers for
2008-2009 but also nominate candidates for office. This is always a fun
time and a great chance to get together with friends and discuss
freedom.
This year’s convention will once again be held at Brann’s Steak House on 28th Street in Cascade. It is conveniently located just East of the I-96 exit on 28th Street (Exit 40). The meeting will begin at 6 PM and should be very informative and fun. We expect a Libertarian presidential candidate from Michigan to attend (Bob Jackson). This will be an excellent opportunity to find out more about his campaign before the national convention in May.
If you are interested in running for office, please feel free to tell us before you attend so we can have paperwork ready for you in advance. Of course, we will help you complete all of the candidate paperwork at the convention including a public notary. If you have not run for office before, please consider it as it is a very rewarding and fun process.
Call Board Advisor Eric Larson for details regarding the convention or questions about running for office. You can reach him on his cell at 616-648-3384. LPWM officers can also be reached via e-mail, addresses at www.lpwm.org
West Michigan Libertarian TV Show on Homeschooling (March 27th)
Erwin Haas will again be filming the
“West Michigan Libertarian” for viewing on Kent County public access
television. This month’s episode will be about home schooling versus
government schools and also the nature of education in today’s society.
The show is free and also provides unlimited pizza and pop for all
participants. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss liberty with
both Libertarians and non-Libertarians in front of the camera. It is a
very laid-back environment and often leads to some very good
discussions.
The filming will take place in the basement of the Pizza Hut on 28th Street just East of the East Beltline. Food is served at 6 PM and filming begins a short time thereafter. Please plan to attend and bring along a friend or two.
Bylaw Proposal Changes
If you have any interest in changing the local bylaws, please contact interim vice-chair, Tom Quinn at mrtomq@yahoo.com. Changes to the local bylaws will occur at the annual convention on April 1st.
Let’s Capture the Ron Paul Enthusiasm
If you know of friends, coworkers, or
family members who were excited by the Ron Paul campaign, be sure to
tell them about the Libertarian Party and invite them to our convention
on April 1st. Now is a great time to help those who were
displaced by the Republican Party to find a home with us. It is also a
great opportunity to find good quality candidates committed to liberty
to run for office and help shift the debate.
